Questions
What is Breakout?
A talent show for films, from OpenFlix. Filmmakers pitch their film and what they need, show a trailer, and a panel of working industry people reacts, votes and can make an offer. Every film becomes a 75-second vertical short, and 5 of them make an episode.
Is it open for entries?
Not yet. Signing up tells us you are interested, and we will write to you when the pilot begins and when the official rules are published. A sign-up is not an entry.
Who are the judges?
People who work in film: distribution, producing, directing. We will name them once they have agreed to be named, and not before.
What can a filmmaker win?
Reactions and notes from the panel, a judge as a champion, and offers on Deal Day, which judges choose to make or not. The season winner also gets a featured release on OpenFlix, a featured Film Fund campaign and a strategy session.
Is a deal on the show a real deal?
An offer on camera is made in principle. It becomes a deal when the judge and the filmmaker sign an agreement afterward. OpenFlix is not a party to it.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Signing up is free, there is no entry fee, and watching is free.
