The mechanics
How funding a film works
Three steps, and nothing leaves your card until the third one is certain.
You pledge
Pick a reward, or name an amount. Your card is saved, not charged.
It hits its goal
Only then is every saved card charged, for exactly what was pledged.
Rewards go out
Anything that ships asks for your address. The filmmaker is paid after a short hold.
If it misses its goal, no payment is ever created. Not one card is charged, so there is nothing to refund and nothing to chase.
Backing at scale? A matching partner commits to match what the audience pledges — at a ratio and up to a ceiling they set — and, like every pledge here, nothing is charged unless the film reaches its goal. The campaign owner accepts a match before it appears, and campaigns looking for one say so. How matching works →
What backing a film actually risks
You are supporting a film that does not exist yet. This is not a shop with stock on a shelf: your money pays for work that still has to be made, and work can slip, change shape, or fail outright.
- A reward may not arrive A reward can arrive late, can arrive different from what is pictured, and, despite a filmmaker's best efforts, may not arrive at all.
- Dates are estimates Any delivery date shown on a reward is the filmmaker's estimate. It is not a promise, and it is not a date OpenFlix can hold them to on your behalf.
- The filmmaker delivers, not OpenFlix The filmmaker is responsible for making the film and for delivering every reward on this page. OpenFlix hosts the campaign and handles the payment. OpenFlix is not responsible for reward fulfilment and does not guarantee that any reward, or any film, is delivered.
- This is not an investment Backing a film buys a reward and supports the work. It is not a stake in the film, it does not pay you anything back, and it gives you no say over how the production is run.
